Black Eagle Pharmacy Museum

The Fekete Sas Patikamúzeum on Fő utca is a beautifully intact 18th-century pharmacy interior, set up as a museum after the working pharmacy closed in 1971. The room is small but extraordinary — carved wooden cabinets crammed with apothecary jars, mortars and pestles laid out as if the pharmacist had just stepped out, and a fine baroque ceiling overhead.

It takes ten minutes to look around and is an essential stop in the old town, particularly if you have any interest in design or the history of medicine. The entry fee is nominal.

A story
The pharmacy operated from 1758 right up until 1971 in the same panelled interior, dispensing potions from carved oak cabinets and porcelain jars stamped with the Jesuit seal. The original equipment is preserved exactly as it stood when the last apothecary locked the door.
