Port of Pescara

The port of Pescara sits at the mouth of the Aterno-Pescara river, where it meets the Adriatic. It is a working port — fishing boats, a small ferry terminal, and some pleasure craft — rather than a tourist attraction in itself, but the harbour mouth and the promenade alongside it are pleasant places to walk. The early morning fish market near the quay is worth seeing if you are up early.

The area around the port has a slightly different character from the beach resort part of the city: more functional, more local, with a handful of osterie and seafood restaurants aimed at workers rather than tourists. The fish you eat in the better restaurants in central Pescara likely came through here. Walk south from the Ponte del Mare footbridge and you reach the port area within ten minutes.
