When to Go

Pescara is primarily a summer destination. July and August are peak season, with hot weather, busy beaches, and the Pescara Jazz festival drawing large crowds. Accommodation prices rise sharply and advance booking is advisable. June and September offer the same beach weather with fewer people and lower prices.

The rest of the year is quiet. Winter is mild by Italian standards — the mountains block the coldest northern air — but most beach infrastructure closes and the city feels emptier than its size would suggest. Spring and autumn are good times to use Pescara as a base for day trips into the mountains: the Gran Sasso and Majella are accessible, and the medieval hilltowns of the region are at their most pleasant.

Pescara Jazz takes place in July at the Stadio Adriatico. It is one of Italy's oldest jazz festivals, running since 1969, and has hosted major international names over the decades.
