Beaches

Pescara's beach stretches for more than 20 kilometres along the Adriatic, making it one of the longest sandy strands on Italy's east coast. The central section in front of the city is densely packed with stabilimenti balneari — privately run beach concessions renting sunbeds and umbrellas — from June to September. Prices are reasonable by Italian standards. The northern stretch towards Montesilvano and the Pineta Dannunziana nature reserve is less commercial and good for an early morning walk.

Swimming is generally good: the water is calm, the bottom sandy and shallow. Water quality varies — the mouth of the Pescara river is best avoided, but the beaches north and south of the city centre are clean.
