Monte Conero is the limestone promontory that gives the Riviera its name and its shape. The summit is 572 metres above the sea, the slopes are covered in macchia and Mediterranean oak, and the eastern face drops sheer into the Adriatic in a series of white-stone cliffs.
The whole massif is protected as the Parco Naturale del Conero. A network of marked trails runs across the ridge — the most popular is the Sentiero 301 which traces the spine of the mountain — with views down onto the beaches of Sassi Neri, San Michele and Due Sorelle. Allow half a day for a full traverse.
