Sirolo is the bigger and prettier of the Riviera's two cliff-top towns, perched directly above the mountain's southern face. The historic centre is a tangle of stone-paved alleys around a single piazza, with the small Teatro Cortesi — built in the 1860s in the local Liberty style — and a viewpoint, the Piazzale Marino, that hangs over the cliff.
The town gets busy from June to August. Park outside the walls; the centre is closed to traffic. A steep stepped path drops from the belvedere to the beach at San Michele in twenty minutes — easy down, hard back up.
