Chiesa Matrice Santa Maria Assunta is the mother church of Polignano a Mare, standing by Piazza dell'Orologio in the old town. Consecrated in 1295, it has a restrained facade, a tall bell tower, and a Renaissance portal framed by statues.
Inside, look for the sculpted Nativity by Stefano da Putignano. The church is an easy stop while wandering the lanes of Borgo Antico.
