Riserva Naturale Orientata Isola di Lampedusa

Protected south-coast reserve covering Lampedusa cliffs, coves, scrubland, and the turtle-nesting beach of Isola dei Conigli.

Lampedusa's protected nature reserve takes in the wilder southern edge of the island, where pale limestone drops into clear water and paths cut through low Mediterranean scrub. It is the part of Lampedusa where the island feels least like a beach resort and most like a small, dry, wind-shaped outpost between Sicily and North Africa.

The best-known stop is the area around Isola dei Conigli, but the reserve is worth treating as more than a photo call. Go early, carry water, and give yourself time to walk between coves; the fragile habitat includes rare plants and nesting loggerhead turtles, so posted access rules matter here.
