The broad Blue Flag-certified beach stretches for over a kilometre along the Baltic just west of the old town centre. The sand is fine, the dunes are backed by Scots pine, and the water — never warm by Mediterranean standards — is clean and shallow.
Summer facilities include lifeguards, changing huts, beach volleyball courts, and a children's play area. Cycle paths run all the way from the town centre through the dunes; cycle rental is cheap and ubiquitous. The beach is busier than central beaches in Riga only by Latvian-family standards — by international standards it remains pleasantly empty.
