Ventspils Lighthouse

The squat brick lighthouse at the mouth of the Venta River, dating from 1864, marks the entrance to Ventspils harbour. The structure stands at the end of a long stone breakwater — walking out to it along the breakwater is one of the more atmospheric short walks the city offers, especially in rough weather when waves break dramatically over the seaward side.

The lighthouse itself is not open to the public, but the surrounding shore is part of the wider beach area and is freely accessible.
