't Olde Maat Uus (roughly, "the old farmhand's house") is a folk life museum housed in a traditional Giethoorn farmhouse. The collections cover domestic and agricultural life from the 19th and early 20th centuries: farm tools, traditional costumes, household objects, and equipment from the peat-cutting era. Volunteers run the museum and in some cases demonstrate traditional crafts and activities, particularly in the summer months.
The museum is open April through October and gives a grounded, human-scale picture of what ordinary life in the village looked like before the tourists arrived. It is a good complement to the Museumboerderij and the two together give a reasonably complete picture of the village's history. Entry is inexpensive.
