Stadstimmerwerf is Leiden's former city carpenter's yard, built in 1612 by Lieven de Key. The stepped-gable house once served the city's master carpenter and is one of the more distinctive historic buildings along this part of the old centre.
The building is now used as an art gallery, so its interest is both architectural and cultural. Even if you do not go inside, it is worth a short look while walking between Leiden's canals, churches, and museums.
