Museum Het Leids Wevershuis

A small museum in one of the last surviving weavers' homes in Leiden, the kind of narrow brick house that once filled the streets behind the Hooglandse Kerk. At its peak in the 17th century, Leiden was the second-largest cloth-producing centre in Europe, with thousands of looms clattering inside houses just like this.

The downstairs front room contains a working loom; volunteers sometimes demonstrate weaving on Saturday afternoons. Upstairs are a few rooms furnished as they might have looked when the weavers' family lived above the workshop. Brief but worthwhile.
