De Vlijt Windmill

Working 18th-century corn mill on the edge of the town centre

De Vlijt (The Industry) is an octagonal post mill standing on Harnjesweg, a short walk from the town centre. Built in the early 18th century, it is one of the few working windmills in Gelderland and still grinds grain on open days. The mill is maintained by a voluntary miller's association and is open to visitors on specific weekends, usually the first Saturday of the month from spring to autumn.

The mill is not a museum piece — it actually functions, and on a windy day you can watch the sails turn and feel the whole structure vibrate. The millers are usually happy to explain the mechanics and sell bags of freshly ground flour. It is a small but satisfying stop, particularly if you are cycling through the area or combining it with a walk along the Rhine embankment nearby.
