Svolvær packs a surprising amount into a small town. The mountains begin immediately behind the harbour, the sea surrounds it, and nearby Kabelvåg — just 5 km west — adds a clutch of excellent museums and a medieval church. You can ski in the morning and kayak in the afternoon without going far.
