The Norsk Tindesenter — Norwegian Mountaineering Centre — sits next to the harbour and the gondola base station. Inside is a museum on the history of climbing in the Romsdalen, with old gear, photographs from the first ascents of the Troll Wall, and a film about big-wall climbing in the area. There is also a serious indoor climbing wall, one of the tallest in the country, where you can buy a day pass and harness rental.
The building itself is worth a look — angular black timber, designed to echo the geometry of the surrounding peaks. The café on the ground floor is one of the more reliable food stops in town. Allow an hour for the museum, longer if you want to climb.
