The sullen brickwork of the massive city hall, the Rådhus, dominates Fridtjof Nansens Plass and Oslo's waterfront. Opened in 1950 to celebrate the city's 900th anniversary, it took decades to win over skeptics — but the twin towers have since become one of the city's most recognizable landmarks.
Inside, the main hall is decorated with large murals depicting Norwegian history and daily life. The Rådhus is also where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded each December.
