Old Town Hall

The Old Town Hall dominates Toruń's market square and is one of the finest examples of Gothic brick civic architecture in Poland. Construction began in the late 13th century and continued through several phases, with the building taking its current form in the 14th and 15th centuries. The tower offers views across the old town and the Vistula.

Inside, the District Museum covers Toruń's history from the Teutonic Knights period through the Hanseatic trade era, the wars of the 17th century, and into the modern period. The collection includes medieval stained glass, Polish art, and decorative objects from the city's prosperous merchant past. The building itself is as much an attraction as its contents — the vaulted cellars and the main hall give a sense of the commercial power Toruń once commanded.

A story
The Old Town Hall was built in stages between the 13th and 15th centuries and was once one of the most important trading houses in northern Europe — its vaults stored goods from across the Baltic trade network. Today it holds the Regional Museum, one of the oldest in Poland.
