Opened in 2013 in the beautifully restored 18th-century Naryshkin-Shuvalov Palace on the Fontanka Embankment, this private museum holds the world's largest collection of Faberge eggs. The Blue Room displays fifteen eggs in total, including nine imperial Easter eggs commissioned by the Romanov tsars, each an astonishing feat of jeweled craftsmanship. Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg's Link of Times foundation assembled the collection of over 4,000 decorative art pieces to repatriate these cultural treasures to Russia. Beyond the eggs, the palace rooms themselves are worth seeing, painstakingly restored over seven years. Book timed tickets in advance, as the intimate gallery spaces fill up quickly, especially during summer.
