Pushkinsky Dom, or the Pushkin House, occupies the domed former customs house on Vasilievsky Island. Since 1927 it has housed the Institute of Russian Literature, one of the country's major literary archives.
For visitors, the appeal is strongest if Russian literature is part of your reason for coming to Saint Petersburg. The building itself is also worth noticing on a walk around the Strelka and the university quarter.
