Sirogojno, a small village about 15 km from Zlatibor town, is home to Staro Selo (Old Village), an open-air museum where traditional rural Serbian buildings have been reconstructed and furnished as they would have been in the 19th century. The presentation is thoughtful — this is not a theme park, but a genuine attempt to show how people lived on this plateau. There is a restaurant serving local food, a small shop, an open-air stage, and a few traditional houses available to rent as holiday accommodation.
Sirogojno is also the centre of a remarkable hand-knitting tradition. The village women produce patterned knitwear — sweaters, socks, mittens — that has been exported worldwide since the 1970s. You can buy directly from the makers at Staro Selo's shop or at Zlatibor's Green Market.
