Minorite Monastery

The Minorite Monastery, a few minutes east of Tartini Square, is centred on one of the loveliest cloistered courtyards on the Slovenian coast — a quiet rectangle of pale stone arches around a small garden, with a wellhead in the middle and frescoes faintly visible on the inner walls.

The Franciscan order founded the monastery in the thirteenth century and the church attached to it is still in use. Entrance to the cloister is free and most visitors leave noticeably calmer than they arrived. Summer concerts make excellent use of the acoustic; check the printed posters at the door.
