One of the more reliable choices on the Portorož seafront, Staro Sidro ("The Old Anchor") takes the standard Istrian seafood formula — grilled fish, fritto misto, pasta with shellfish — and executes it well in a setting that has the bonus of outdoor tables close to the waterfront. The brodeto (slow-cooked fish stew with polenta) is a reliable order, as is the grilled branzino with local olive oil and capers. The wine list covers Slovenian Istrian whites, including several Malvazija producers worth exploring.
