La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de las Angustias

Ornate baroque church dedicated to Granada's patron saint

The Virgen de las Angustias is Granada's beloved patron saint, and this baroque church on Carrera del Genil is her home. The plain exterior gives nothing away — step inside and you'll find one of the most lavishly decorated interiors in the city, all gold leaf, frescoes, and carved marble.

If you're in Granada in late September, the Ofrenda Floral (floral offering) and parades honoring the Virgen are among the city's most heartfelt celebrations. The church is open to visitors throughout the day.
