Plaza de la Merced

Picasso's birthplace square, ringed by cafes and late-night tapas bars

A wide, palm-lined square at the heart of the old town with an obelisk in the middle and a bronze Picasso sitting permanently on a bench reading a newspaper. The artist was born in the apartment at number 15, now the Casa Natal. The plaza is ringed by cafes and tapas bars and stays busy late into the night.
