Málaga is the obvious base for exploring western Andalusia. The high-speed AVE train reaches Córdoba in under an hour and Sevilla in under two and a half. Granada and the Alhambra are an hour and a half by car or bus. Closer in, Ronda with its dramatic gorge and the white town of Antequera with its prehistoric dolmens are both easy half-day or full-day trips. For beach time without leaving the province, the resort strip of the Costa del Sol — Marbella, Torremolinos, Fuengirola — runs west along the coast.
