Playa de Arenas Blancas is a small, open Atlantic cove on El Hierro's west coast, notable because its pale shell sand feels almost out of place on an island better known for black lava, red cliffs, and natural pools. The beach is only about 50 metres long, but the contrast between white sand and dark volcanic rock makes it memorable.
Come prepared rather than expecting a resort beach. Access is easiest by car followed by a short walk, facilities are minimal, and the sea can be lively when the swell is up. On a calm day it is a good picnic-and-swim stop while exploring the wilder Frontera coast.
