Playa Verodal is El Hierro at its most volcanic and exposed: a red-sand beach under dark cliffs on the island's western side. It looks inviting, but the Atlantic here can be rough, and swimming is often dangerous.
Go for the colour and wildness rather than a lazy beach day. The drive, the empty coast, and the contrast between red sand and blue water make it one of the island's more memorable landscape stops.
