Pozo de las Calcosas is a dramatic north-coast bathing place on El Hierro, where natural pools sit below dark volcanic cliffs and a small cluster of traditional stone-and-thatch houses. The setting feels raw and distinctly island-like, especially when the Atlantic is moving.
It is best visited in calm conditions and with respect for local warnings, since natural pools can become dangerous when seas are rough. Even without swimming, the descent, village, and coast make it a worthwhile short excursion.
