Eating Out

Arrecife is the best place on Lanzarote for Canarian food away from the tourist menus. The streets around the Charco de San Ginés are lined with small tapas bars and fish restaurants where the menu changes with what came in that morning.

Look for papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes boiled in salt) with mojo rojo or mojo verde, vieja (parrotfish) grilled whole, and queso de cabra (local goat cheese) sometimes served warm with palm-blossom honey. Lunch is the bigger meal of the day — most locals eat after 2pm.
