Östgötateatern is one of Sweden's most respected regional theatres, based in Norrköping with a stage also in Linköping. The company produces drama, dance, and opera at a consistently high level, drawing talent from Stockholm and beyond. The Norrköping stage occupies a handsome 19th-century building in the centre of town, and productions range from Swedish classics to contemporary international work.
The theatre's season runs from September to May. Check the website (ostgotateatern.se) for the current programme; some performances have English surtitles. The building itself is worth a look even if you don't attend a performance — the foyer has been thoughtfully restored and there is a café that opens before shows. If you are in Norrköping for a couple of days, an evening at the theatre is one of the best things to do.
