Ostannya Barykada

A speakeasy-style restaurant hidden behind an unmarked door inside the Globus shopping centre under Maidan Nezalezhnosti. The menu is contemporary Ukrainian — modernised versions of traditional dishes, local produce, Ukrainian wines and craft beers. The interior is heavy on revolutionary memorabilia, photographs from the Maidan, and a generally patriotic atmosphere.

Reserve ahead and look up the password — without it you cannot get in. Worth the gimmick; the food is genuinely good.

A story
The restaurant takes its name — The Last Barricade — from the 1990 student hunger strike on the Maidan that helped force the resignation of the Soviet Ukrainian government. You can only get in by giving the correct password, which references one of three Ukrainian revolutions: the 1990 strike, the 2004 Orange Revolution, or the 2014 Maidan.
