Puzata Hata

A cafeteria-style Ukrainian chain with several branches in central Kyiv, including the busy Khreshchatyk one. You queue past a counter, point at what you want (borshch, varenyky, holubtsi, stewed buckwheat, kompot), and pay by weight at the till.

The food is solid home-style Ukrainian cooking — nothing exceptional but consistently good, and the cheapest meal you will find in the centre. It is also one of the few places that requires no language: you can see what you are ordering.
