Sydney Gardens

Bath's surviving Georgian pleasure garden, crossed by canal and railway near Great Pulteney Street.

Sydney Gardens is Bath's old pleasure garden, laid out at the end of Great Pulteney Street when Georgian visitors wanted promenades, music and diversion as much as they wanted the baths. The setting still has that leisurely shape, with lawns, mature trees and paths that feel more local than ceremonial.

What makes it more than just another park is the way later infrastructure cuts through it. The Kennet and Avon Canal and the railway both pass through the gardens, adding tunnels, bridges and movement to a small green space. It pairs naturally with the Holburne Museum next door and makes a quieter pause after the Royal Crescent and Roman Baths.
