Clarinda's is a tea room of the old school: small tables with lace cloths, china teapots, home-baked scones and cakes, soup and sandwiches at lunch. It sits near the foot of the Canongate, a short walk from Holyrood Palace, and provides a quiet contrast to the busier establishments higher on the Royal Mile. The baking is the main draw — proper shortbread, fruit cake, scones with jam and cream. Nothing is elaborate or trendy; that is the point. Good for lunch or afternoon tea after visiting the Palace or Dynamic Earth.
