Fishers Bistro

Long-established seafood bistro in a 17th-century signal tower on The Shore, relaxed and unfussy

Address 1 The Shore, Edinburgh EH6 6QW

Fishers has been in business on The Shore since 1991, occupying a 17th-century signal tower at the foot of the street — one of the oldest buildings in Leith. The cooking is straightforward: fresh Scottish fish and shellfish treated simply, without the elaboration of the neighbourhood's Michelin-starred establishments. The fish soup is a particular constant, as are the oysters and the simply grilled day-catch. The interior is warm and slightly cramped in the way of restaurants that have been busy and loved for decades. Good value relative to its neighbours and more relaxed in atmosphere — appropriate for lunch, not just special occasions.
