National Library of Scotland

The National Library of Scotland is a major reference library in Edinburgh's Old Town. Most of the working library is for readers, but public exhibitions make it useful to visitors interested in books, maps, manuscripts, and Scottish literary history.

The permanent Treasures exhibition is the main reason to stop in. It pairs well with the National Museum of Scotland and Greyfriars Kirkyard, both a short walk away.
