Talbot Rice Gallery is the University of Edinburgh's main contemporary art gallery, tucked into the Old College. It mixes changing exhibitions with the grandeur of the Georgian Playfair Library Hall, so the building is part of the draw.
It is a good stop if you are already walking between the Royal Mile, the National Museum of Scotland, and the university quarter. The programme leans thoughtful rather than blockbuster.
