Mount Seymour Provincial Park

Mount Seymour is the easternmost and quietest of the North Shore mountains — a 3,500-hectare provincial park rising to 1,455 metres at Mount Seymour summit, with a small ski operation on the south face in winter and an extensive trail network through old-growth hemlock and Western red cedar in summer.

The popular Mount Seymour Trail (5 km return, around 3 hours) climbs through First, Second, and Third Pumps — three subpeaks along a ridge — to spectacular views over Indian Arm, Vancouver, and on a clear day Mount Baker. The Dog Mountain trail (5 km return, 2 hours, very gentle) is one of the easiest viewpoint hikes accessible from the road, with a clear view straight out over downtown Vancouver. The Mystery Lake loop is good for families.

In winter, Mount Seymour Resort runs a small ski operation — four lifts, 40 runs, night skiing — that is cheaper and less busy than Grouse or Cypress. Snowshoeing on dedicated trails is excellent.

The road up the mountain is paved all the way; parking at the trailheads fills early on summer weekends and during ski-season Saturdays. The park is free to enter; the ski area charges separately.
