Brant Street Pier

137-metre lakefront pier with the windsail observation tower at the end

Brant Street Pier runs 137 metres out into Lake Ontario from the foot of Brant Street, the main downtown spine. A wide pedestrian walkway, lined with benches and the occasional buskerthat give the city its informal summer-evening promenade. The wind sail at the end — a stainless-steel sculpture that catches the prevailing breeze — is lit up at night and visible from much of the waterfront.

It is the obvious pairing with a meal in downtown Burlington. The pier sits at the heart of Spencer Smith Park and links straight into the waterfront greenway that runs east toward Beachway Park and the canal.

A story
The original pier on this spot was wrecked in a winter storm in 1908 and not rebuilt for more than a hundred years. The current pier was finally completed in 2013, a decade behind schedule and far over budget, with a 12-metre stainless-steel wind sail at the far end that lights up at night.
