Bruce Trail (Burlington Section)

Canada's oldest and longest hiking trail, passing through North Burlington

The Bruce Trail is Canada's oldest and longest marked hiking trail, running 900 kilometres along the Niagara Escarpment from Queenston in the south to Tobermory at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula. The Iroquoia and Toronto sections pass directly through the rural northern parts of Burlington, with access points along Walker's Line, Guelph Line and Appleby Line above the QEW.

The escarpment scenery on this stretch is more rural than spectacular — second-growth forest, occasional cliff-edge viewpoints, a few small waterfalls in spring — but it is the most accessible piece of long-distance hiking in the Greater Toronto Area. Day-hikers commonly use the Crawford Lake / Mount Nemo loop, a few kilometres further west, as the standard sample of the trail near Burlington.
