Kincardine

Lake Huron harbour town with a downtown lighthouse, sandy beach, and strong Scottish ritual.

Kincardine is a Lake Huron town that makes more sense on foot than from the highway. The harbour, beach, marina, and old commercial streets sit close together, with the red-and-white Kincardine Lighthouse watching the Penetangore River from the edge of downtown.

This is not a major destination in the way the Bruce Peninsula is. It is a good spare-day stop if you are already travelling the eastern Lake Huron shore and want a town with a little theatre to it: a boardwalk along Station Beach, the 1850 Walker House Museum, and summer evenings when the pipe band marches down Queen Street.

Kincardine leans hard into its Scottish identity, but the better reason to linger is the lake. Come late in the day, walk the harbour, and stay for a Huron sunset if the weather is clear.
