El Cerro (The Hill) is a densely populated working-class neighbourhood south of Centro Habana, known primarily for the Estadio Latinoamericano — Cuba's national baseball stadium and the home ground of the Industriales, Havana's most popular team. Baseball is Cuba's national sport and watching a game at the Estadio, with its passionate and knowledgeable crowd, is one of the most genuinely local experiences available in Havana.
The neighbourhood itself is architecturally interesting in decay — grand 19th-century townhouses with ornate porticos and crumbling facades line the main streets. Much less visited by tourists than the Malecón or Old Havana, El Cerro gives a clearer picture of everyday Havana life than the renovated historic centre.
