Karl Marx Theatre

The Karl Marx Theatre is Cuba's largest indoor performance venue — a brutalist concrete hall completed in 1969 and capable of holding around 5,000 people. It sits on the border between Miramar and Playa and is Havana's main venue for major concerts, political rallies, and mass cultural events. Every significant international artist who has performed in Cuba has appeared here, from salsa legends to visiting rock acts.

The building itself is an unremarkable piece of socialist-era architecture, but its place in Cuban cultural life is significant. Checking the programme while in Havana is worthwhile — shows range from major Cuban musical acts to ballet, opera, and the occasional foreign performer. Ticket prices remain very low by international standards.
