Regla Cemetery

Regla's municipal cemetery, though smaller and less grand than the Colón Cemetery in Vedado, has an atmosphere of particular importance in the Santería context. Graves here are often decorated with offerings associated with Oyá — the Yoruba deity of the dead who in Santería is syncretised with the Catholic Virgin of Candelaria. Flowers, candles, and small objects left at tombs reflect a living religious practice.

The cemetery is open during daylight hours. It is a quiet and reflective space, well-maintained, and the offerings at individual graves give a sense of the ongoing importance of Afro-Cuban religious practice in everyday life.
