Catedral de Nuestra Senora de los Remedios y San Pablo

The whitewashed parish church on the high point of the island, built in stages between the 1690s and the early 19th century on the foundations of the principal Itza temple after the Spanish finally subdued Nojpeten in 1697. A modest two-towered front, a single nave, a stone floor that slopes slightly with the underlying mound.

Walk up the hill to it for the view as much as the church itself — the Parque Central in front and the lake on both sides make this the natural high point of the island. Open during daylight hours; mass on Sunday mornings.
