A short lancha ride north across the channel, the Tayasal peninsula holds the small archaeological site that gives the area its colonial name. The site itself is modest by Peten standards — a few low mounds, the remains of a ceremonial platform, no restored buildings — but the wooden Mirador del Rey Canek tower on the highest point gives the best wide view of Flores from the water side.
Combine it with a swim at the small playita on the same peninsula. Boat hire from the Flores docks runs around 100 quetzales return per boat.
