The central plaza of Manzanillo, the Jardín Obregón, sits between the port and the seafront and is the social heart of the old town. By evening, families come out, mariachis play next to the bandstand, taco carts arrive, and the small kiosks around the edge fill up.
The cathedral of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe faces onto the plaza. The streets immediately behind the plaza — Avenida México, Avenida Juárez, Avenida 21 de Marzo — are where the city's older shops, fondas and cantinas survive amid the modern blocks.
