The old-town grid south of the Río Cuale — cobblestone streets, galleries, small hotels, open-air restaurants, and the best of Puerto Vallarta's LGBT nightlife. The Church of Guadalupe at its northern edge is the city's most recognisable landmark, with a red-brick bell tower crowned by an iron replica of Empress Carlota's crown. Playa de los Muertos at the southern end is the main town beach.
