The narrow pedestrian bridge crossing the Río Cuale just before it reaches the sea is named for the resident iguanas that bask on its handrails and on the rocks below. Crossing it gives you the most photogenic view in town: the river spilling toward the Pacific, Isla Cuale in the middle, and the steeple of the Church of Guadalupe rising above the rooftops.
The neighbourhood on the south side, Gringo Gulch, was the Hollywood escape of choice in the 1960s — Burton and Taylor's Casa Kimberly is two blocks up the hill, and several other movie-star houses from the era still cling to the slope above the river. The bridge is busiest at sunset, when both tourists and iguanas come out for the light.
